my favorites: thrift stores and antique malls
There are a lot of things I love in life... and one of those things are thrift stores... and another one of those things are antique malls. And of course another one of those things are weekends! And lucky me... the last couple of days combined ALL of those things!!
There's nothing more magical than walking into a thrift store and finding a hidden treasure among the un-treasured. One of my favorite things to look for are vintage books. I love finding ones that have a unique design along the spine, playful illustrations on the inside, or ones with titles that I can relate to. This weekend I lucked out and found a book titled: "Melissa". I'm really excited to read it to see what it's all about.
Another thing I love looking for... but usually don't find are vintage dresses. However this weekend I lucked out and found one that actually fit my curvylicious frame... and it was covered from top to bottom in light pink sequins. I wasn't going to go for it... because WHERE would I wear it?! But when I found out that it was 50% off... SOLD!
Antique malls are a different animal altogether. Someone has already done the hard work for you... which you think would be a little less fun... but NO WAY! They've already scoured through the junk to share with you the coolest, weirdest, most unique goodies... that most likely you've never seen anywhere else. I also admire the way some of the dealers display their goods. My favorite is when items are organized by color... ooooh i love it!
Browsing through pre-loved items from different decades and styles is like a breath of fresh air for me. Even when I go home empty handed, I still leave these stores inspired by a certain item or excited to research something I had never seen before. What's the most awesome thing you've found out a thrift store or antique mall?
